DIY Christmas Craft Project: Frosted Vinyl Ornaments

If you’re looking for a quick Christmas project that actually looks expensive, but costs like… $2, this is one of my favorites. These frosted vinyl ornaments are beginner-friendly, giftable, and look like something you’ll find on a curated boutique tree. And the best part? They take maybe 10 minutes each.

Let’s make something cute.

 What You Need

Step 1: Pick a Simple Design

Christmas ornaments look best with minimalist shapes or clean text. Think:

  • Snowflakes

  • Reindeer silhouettes

  • Joy / Noel / Merry in a cute script

  • Tiny stars

  • Your family name or year

You can use free SVGs or just type something into Cricut Design Space. Keep it small, ornament spaces are sneaky tiny.

Step 2: Cut Your Vinyl

Set your Cricut to Premium Vinyl or Matte Vinyl and let it cut your design.
(Pro tip: frosted vinyl hides mistakes better than glossy. Bless it.)

Once it’s done, weed out the bits you don’t need. This is the part where I usually realize I need better lighting, steadier hands, and possibly a third cup of coffee.

Step 3: Apply With Transfer Tape

Cut a small piece of transfer tape, stick it over your design, and peel it up.

Line it up on the ornament, don’t overthink it, because ornaments are round, and they will trick your eyes into thinking you’re crooked even when you’re not. Smooth from the center outward, peel the tape, and done.

Step 4: Add a Little Something Inside (Optional )

You can leave the ornament empty, but if you want that cozy holiday look, fill it with:

  • Faux snow

  • A pinch of glitter

  • A tiny sprig of greenery

  • Rolled up scraps of holiday wrapping paper

Step 5: Add Ribbon and Hang

Tie a simple ribbon or twine on top. Reds, golds, or rustic string all look good. Now hang it up or give it as a gift.

If you want to be extra, add a printed tag that says “Handmade with love (and a Cricut).”

Final Thoughts

This project is one of those little “wow factor” crafts that makes it look like you spent the whole afternoon being cozy and productive, when in reality it took you about 10 minutes and one vinyl scrap you found on your desk.

It’s beginner-friendly, aesthetic, and great for gift-giving or marketplaces.
